Enhanced Rock Weathering

Where nature meets science. Enhanced rock weathering accelerates the natural process of rock weathering to increase carbon sequestration. Through the process of spreading crushed rock across agricultural land, carbon is sequestered approximately 50,000 times faster than in the natural world

The IPCC estimates that ERW could sequester up to 4 billion tonnes of CO2 per year – contributing to 40% of the global target. Across the UK, ERW has the potential to sequester 30 million tonnes of CO2 a year by 2050 which equates to 45% of the carbon removal requirement for the UK to reach Net Zero.

ERW comes with significant co-benefits as the process counteracts soil acidity, thus increasing soil fertility, reducing the need for synthetic fertilisers. This also improves water quality for nearby water sources.
